A champion who uses his skills
and experience to help children
Guard Young is a perfect example of how gymnastics can benefit children and youth. As an unruly, little boy, Guard found an outlet for his energy in gymnastics. He was lucky to have Wayne Young, 1976 US Olympic Team Member and Captain for Men's Gymnastics, as a father who often brought him to the gym where he coached. At an early age he found a love for the fun gymnastics could provide. Through his continuing years in the gym, Guard found structure and discipline in the sport, which developed him as an individual and as an athlete. Guard went on to compete in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece and helped his team to win a silver medal. Although he considers this to be one of his greatest accomplishments, he values even more the life lessons he learned in the gym as a child. These same lessons are what Youngsters, Inc. wants each child who walks through its doors to learn.
